Big news in town! Thanksgiving got out of control in the fireplace

HARTLAND — Fire damaged the town's only business, Cugino's Restaurant, on Thanksgiving.
East Hartland volunteer firefighters were called to the restaurant at 6 Hartland Boulevard about 8:45 p.m. for a report of an activated fire alarm. When they arrived, they found smoke inside the restaurant, Hartland Fire Marshal Peter Sevetz said.
The restaurant had closed so no customers or staff were in the building, Sevetz said. Firefighters quickly found fire in the walls around the three central fireplaces. Firefighters began tearing into the wall to get at the fire while at the same time calling for assistance from firefighters in West Hartland, Granby, Barkhamsted and Granville, Mass.
Firefighters controlled the fire in about an hour. Sevetz described damage as moderate in the main dining area and minor on the second floor. The restaurant will have to be closed until repairs are made, he said Hot embers or sparks had gotten behind paneling next to the fireplace, Sevetz said. East Hartland Fire Chief Norm Gundersen said the business's alarm system saved the building from being heavily damaged
